Mathew Kawecki is an Executive Director at Basilinna. A U.S. diplomat, publisher, and university instructor with over 20 years of experience in government, business, and education in China, the Middle East, and North Africa, he most recently served as Team Lead for the Quad (U.S., Australia, India, Japan diplomatic partnership) in the Office of Regional and Security Policy at the U.S. Department of State. In his capacity as a diplomat, he oversaw head-of-state level negotiations and summits in China and the Middle East for Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden, and for multiple Secretaries of State and other members of the U.S. Cabinet and Congress. Before joining the U.S. Department of State, Mathew developed a global academic research and primary source archive program focused on social scientific and humanities research on 20th and 21st century China for Brill Publishers. He has lived and worked in China, Egypt, Oman, and Saudi Arabia and speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese and Arabic.
