For Australia, the summit comes down to "Three Imperatives”: Stability, Strength, and Space. We need stability in the U.S.-China relationship, strength in the deterrence that prevents miscalculation, and enough strategic space for Australia to deepen its alliance with Washington without being drawn back into damaging diplomatic or trade conflicts with Beijing. The best outcome is not a grand bargain, but a more predictable environment that allows Australia to protect its security, its trade and its freedom of action.
